WE HAVE A PLAN

We have the key

We are together, and that places both responsibility and demands on our shoulders. As a political party that belongs to the league of Social Democratic parties (Socialist International) globally, the Labour Party of Kenya has the responsibility to share the strength and power of the social democratic vision. It is our duty to the nation and to the hardworking people of Kenya. That duty demands that we increase our efforts to engage Kenyans. Everybody needs to know that there is an alternative way to build our nation, that there is a vision which has placed more than sixty socialist parties in governing position to serve the people and not to take away from them. It is our duty to provide that knowledge. This ideology is like a patent key. Every country is its own lock and only one key fits, but the principles, a foundation of people-centred national economy and wealth distribution looks the same.

We want people from all walks of life to get involved and take part in a broadened labour movement coalition. But we are also looking for political power by own strength. We are after all a political party. For this to happen, we need to take a number of steps to make our party and the social democratic ideology both visible and present in Kenyan minds. This what our new strategic vision unfolds. It gives us a road- map into the future. And we got it by looking back, by learning from mistakes and being inspired by the resilient Kenyan people, our success stories and by strong members efforts. Our vision is that of a truly Social Democratic nation in all spheres and this is what our strategic vision is speaking into. The season to roll-out the plan is now here and we welcome Kenyans from all works of life to journey with others as we match towards a prosperous nation that epitomizes social justice and democratic governance across board.

We can truly say: We have the plan

The Kenya We Want

It is often said that there can be no democracy without political parties, it is equally true that there can be no parties without the democratic participation of a country’s citizenry. This not only means being open to people’s specific demands and interests, but also providing them with equal opportunities to reach leadership and representative positions.

Hearing Citizens Demands

Since its founding in 1998, one of Labour Party of Kenya central themes has been to strengthen its position as a key political party in order to contribute to the consolidation of representative democracy. Even in instances where the party has lacked the numbers from the public, LPK has still carried out indispensable functions such as channeling the demands of citizens, developing policies and programs, selecting candidates for the Execu- tive and Legislative powers, as well as monitoring the sitting government. These are functions that in present- day democracies forward looking political parties must continuously engage in.

Strong Advocacy

The party’s first chapter in its constitution states the“the intension of the Labour Party of Kenya, is the struggle towards the Democratic Socialism,” that is, a society with a democratic economy based on the socialist princi- ple, The Labour party supports social welfare provision paid for from progressive taxation. The party supports a social corporatist economy involving the institutionalization of a social partnership system between capital and labor economic interest groups, with government oversight to resolve disputes between the two factions. Since inception of the party, LPK has been a strong supporter of feminism, equality of all kinds, and maintains a strong opposition to what we perceive as discrimination in any form or manner.

The Kenya We Want

The Strategic Plan offers Labour Party of Kenya a self evaluation tool of where the party has been and its cur- rent position in Kenya politics, regional and global politics and of course the road map of where the party needs to be in the coming years. We hope that the dissemination, internalization and implementation of the strategic plan will compel Kenyans from various walks of life to opt for LPK as a party of choice as a truly social democratic party in its ideals and representative of the aspirations of Kenyans as we journey towards “The Kenya we want”.
